Astro, Malaysia\u2019s leading content and entertainment company join forces with Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to promote safe internet practices among teens, including ethical use of social media and artificial intelligence (AI), through the Vinmeen Exclusive Series (VES), Maara. The techno-thriller series, Maara, premieres on 6 July, 9.30pm on Astro Vinmeen (Ch 202) via TV, Astro GO, On Demand, and Sooka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), said, \u201cMCMC remains committed to strengthening public awareness on online safety and responsible digital usage through the Safe Internet Campaign. This campaign is an ongoing effort to educate Malaysians on internet safety across all user groups, particularly children and family institutions. Through strategic collaboration with industry players and the implementation of community-based programmes, this initiative also supports continuous efforts towards creating a safer internet environment for all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directed and produced by award-winning local filmmaker Jeyapragash Jeyamurthi (JP), Maara follows 19-year-old university student Maragathavalli known as Maara as she pursues fame and financial stability as a social media influencer under the guidance of her mentor, Alice. As her ambition intensifies, Maara crosses ethical lines\u2014exploiting her disabled sister for a viral post and later leaking her rival, Brindha\u2019s private video, which leads to tragic consequences. As the police close in, Maara attempts to erase her digital footprint and go into hiding, but she is ultimately torn between guilt and survival. Her choice\u2014to confess or remain on the run\u2014forms the heart of the story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
