A friendly football match with teams from PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Bhd. (PNBMV) and Ministry of Religious Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Department) took place at Stadium Merdeka. The match was enlivened by the participation of YB Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), and the presence of YM Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda, Group Chairman of PNB, which added to the vibrancy of the occasion.
Chief Executive Officer of PNB Merdeka Ventures, Dato’ Ir. Ts. Izwan Ibrahim, who also took part in the friendly football match as right winger, said, “We envision Stadium Merdeka as a vibrant community space that brings people together beyond its sporting legacy. As a key attraction within the Merdeka 118 precinct, the stadium is a welcoming place for all Malaysians, whether for sports, picnics, yoga or other community activities. Entry is free, and we invite the public to come and experience the stadium for themselves.”
Stadium Merdeka reopened on 17th August 2024, following a comprehensive restoration. Today, the stadium continues to come alive with community spirit, with more than 200 events spanning culture, arts, education, heritage and sports held at the venue to date.
